UW/Transgressions

UW/ Transgressions are a series of urban interventions conducted by the students of the Culture Animation specialisation under the supervision of performance and visual artists. Transgressing the walls of the university, the project was a reference to the idea of opening the academic world onto the social context, and the University of Warsaw onto the city of Warsaw.

During the series, students participated in workshops that resulted in a series of events held across the city with the use of sound improvisation, social interactions, performance art and street art techniques.

The workshop run by Agata Harz was devoted to learning white singing and was a reference to the singing traditions in music culture and rites of a large city.

The workshop headed by Maria Parczewska responded both in practice and theory to the question which methods, topics, and materials trigger creativity and which block the expression of a group and hinder the courage of searching for new solutions.

The objective of the workshop run by Janusz Bałdyga was to learn the skills of designing actions and events based on the identification of the structural and social conditions of spatial planning.

The workshop run by the Vlep(v)net collective offered students the opportunity to learn about the most popular techniques applied in street actions such as, stencils, screen printing, tags, stickers, paper leaflets and how to execute one’s own action with the use of these techniques.

The project was co-financed from the funds of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage as part of the “Culture Animation – Two-year Vocational Specialisation” project.
