Listening to Gozdowo

Activities in Gozdowo were carried out by animators and artists from the Institute of Polish Culture, the Chair of Culture Association and the Laundry association with the participation of the Association of Creative Initiatives ę in June and July 2007.

During the 12-day stay in a small village in northern Mazovian province, young animators were able to gain hands-on experience in culture animation practices and to carry out their first real-life projects. The project consisted of creative workshops (photography, film, capoeira, salsa, samba, design, art, land art, etc), actions in public space and meetings. The animators were working with children and youth but part of the activities was also addressed to adults.

The common reference point was local space – all the activities ended on the day of the grand finale (1 July) during the event called “Listening to Gozdowo”. Other highlights of the event included a series of presentations and shows. Some presentations were carried out through real-time activities, e.g. the photography workshop set up a studio at the event, while a group of young people taking part in a workshop teaching independent field work and project development in Gozdowo organised with the help of animators a location-based game to which all the village residents were invited.

The objective of the project was to develop a model of education through action and new methods of field work, as well as acquiring new tools (e.g. the methods of animation activities addressed to adults). The project was continued as part of the “Three Poles” activity carried out by the Chair of Culture Association in collaboration with the Culture Animation Team.
