The Culture Animation specialization in the Institute of Polish Culture at University of Warsaw was established in 1992 and developed on the basis of an original curriculum, which is regularly enhanced with new methods of culture animation work. Its program was founded on the understanding of culture as an open space of creative activities and it combined academic studies in the humanities (based on the program of Cultural Studies) with elements of artistic education and practical, vocational skills.

In 2019 the specialization was transformed into a master’s degree program with a practical profile – Social Arts.

Social Arts studies continue the idea of vocational training through action and training in the field. Students learn to research and understand contemporary culture, to use various artistic forms in social and participatory projects, and to apply this knowledge to work with various groups of people.
